Professors Get Grant For Work On Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Sunday, August 21, 2005
Complex chemical reactions likely hold the key to changing the United States’ dependence on foreign oil for transportation. Two University of Wyoming chemistry professors recently received a $300,000 grant from the Department of Energy to study a specific type of reaction that could make hydrogen vehicles a reality. As part of President Bush’s 2003 State of the Union address, he announced a $1.2 billion initiative to produce a hydrogen economy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on foreign oil. While hydrogen cars are still far from being realized, studies have increased their likelihood, and the Energy Department now estimates these cars and refueling stations will be affordable by 2020."
